Every company has its own history, identity and vision. What about Santex? We asked the people that contribute every day, with their work, to make it possible.
We interviewed Elvis Nicente, Plant Manager of the Santex production plant in Meledo (Vicenza). Elvis is one of the main characters who work behind the scenes to bring quality products – that listen to the users’ different needs – on the Italian and foreign markets, in hospital departments and in the house of incontinent people.
Elvis has been working as the Plant Manager in Meledo (Vicenza) since 2009. He daily engages in the coordination of all the different company resources involved in the so-called “functional operations” that go from the design to the production, from the storage of different raw materials to the shipment of finished products, and plant maintenance.
The plant in Meledo employs over 140 people and operates 24 hours a day, five days a week. Its 10 production lines, all with a very high technological value, manufacture all those products that belong to the vast and complete range of incontinence absorbing products, destined both to the institutional market, as well as, to pharmacies and to large-scale, Italian or foreign, retail trade.
Which market requirements have had the greatest impact on your production and management processes?
“The incontinence products market” explains Elvis, “is a constantly evolving market”. Moreover, the competence and awareness of all the different professionals of the industry, i.e. Producers, buyers and end users, is growing.
“For a manufacturing company, in general, not just for Santex, this means having to exploit useful hints for a rapid change, to adapt the organization in real-time and to continue to respond to the needs of a rapidly evolving market that tends to change its demand even more quickly. Thanks to this fast evolution, the Vita Soft system was developed to improve the aspects related to fit and comfort; moreover, the performance of the products itself has also increasingly improved.
“Finally, we can affirm that the product isn’t the only thing we modified. The commercial choice made by the company to open its sales to the private market has required a heavy restructuring of the processes, introducing new functional technologies for the management of the new packages, required by the market”.
How will the incontinence products market be? What future challenges do you prepare to face?
“The reference market for Santex will increasingly be a global market, not just a national one for the public administration. On this basis, we will have to increasingly face very strict demands regarding our services and performance while trying to optimize our costs. This means that the Company will need to acquire new skills, introducing effective and adaptable organizational strategies, while integrating even more efficient automation systems into the various production departments.”
What was the project or the challenge that has fascinated you the most?
“With no doubt, what I am living now. The real challenge is just behind the corner: we will have to deal with the commissioning of four new highly innovative production lines, used for the production of high performing absorbing diapers featuring a state-of-the-art design, which perfectly respond to an even more sensitive market demand. Of course, we wish to settle all this as soon as possible.
